Iran Patterned Glass

Patterned glass is rolled between two metal rollers while the ribbon is still hot, so the design is pressed into the surface rather than printed on it. That is what makes it diffuse light and obscure whatever is behind it.

Each roller design has a name, and the same design is often sold under different names by different producers, which is why a drawing or a sample reference is more reliable than a name alone.
