Tempered (toughened) glass applications
Tempered glass, also called toughened glass, is float glass that is heated and then cooled rapidly. This makes it considerably stronger than ordinary float glass of the same thickness, and if it breaks it crumbles into small, blunt pieces instead of sharp shards. It is used for:
- Showers and shower enclosures
- Doors, windows and balconies
- Tabletops, furniture and glass surfaces
- Commercial centres
- Home appliances
Toughened glass cut to size
Tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after tempering, so every piece is cut to your dimensions and processed first. Edge polishing, drilling and bevelling are available, in clear and tinted glass; see the thicknesses and colours in the table above. Laminated glass made from tempered sheets is available for higher safety requirements.
Tempered float glass specifications
Tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after tempering, so every sheet is cut to size and processed first. We supply tempered float glass in 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm, clear or in colours such as smoked, bronze, Euro bronze, Euro golden, blue, Ford blue, pink and French green, with drilling, polishing and bevelling done before tempering.
Standard sheet sizes range from 2250 × 1410 mm to 3660 × 2600 mm. For the untreated base glass, see float glass.
Tempered glass is quoted per order: the price depends on the thickness, colour, finished sizes, the number of holes and edge finishes, the packing, the delivery term (EXW, FOB or CFR) and the quantity. Send a cutting list through a request for quotation.
What drives the price, minimum order and quote time?
Thickness, sheet size, colour or pattern, processing, packing, delivery term and quantity affect the quotation. Send the specification, quantity and destination through the quotation form. We confirm availability, the applicable minimum order and the time needed to prepare your quote after reviewing those details; a delivery or response time is not promised before that review.
